CSR Sustain has been recognised at the Northwest Energy Efficiency Awards for its innovative work transforming building performance at CENTRAL TECH, a flagship workspace operated by Sciontec in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter.
The award highlights CSR Sustain’s pioneering use of AI-driven building analytics and Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) to unlock significant operational energy savings while improving comfort and reliability for building occupants.
Driving Efficiency Through Data

Working closely with Sciontec, CSR Sustain deployed advanced analytics across CENTRAL TECH’s HVAC and building systems to identify hidden inefficiencies and optimise performance.
The project delivered substantial measurable outcomes, including:
Over 348,000 kWh of energy efficiency opportunities identified
More than 48 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided annually identified
Over £53,000 in annual operational cost savings
Improved system reliability and occupant comfort
Importantly, these results were achieved primarily through operational optimisation rather than major capital upgrades, demonstrating how data-driven insights can unlock untapped efficiency in existing commercial buildings.
A Landmark Innovation Workspace
CENTRAL TECH is a modern innovation hub developed and operated by Sciontec, providing flexible office, laboratory and collaboration spaces for high-growth technology, digital and science businesses.
Sciontec is a leading developer and operator of science and technology facilities in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, supporting innovation-led businesses with high-performance workspaces designed to foster collaboration and growth.
Industry Recognition for Real-World Impact
Commenting on the award, Luke Cleary, Techincal Director of CSR Sustain said:
“This recogntion at the Northwest Energy Efficiency Awards is fantastic recognition of what can be achieved when building expertise meets advanced data analytics. Our work with Sciontec at CENTRAL TECH demonstrates how AI-driven building insight can unlock major energy and carbon savings while enhancing comfort and operational performance. It’s a powerful example of how smarter building operations can deliver both sustainability and commercial value.”
Setting a New Standard for Building Performance
